Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2–3 bananas)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Stir until well blended.
- Add the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the banana mixture. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
- If you’re using chocolate chips, gently fold them into the batter at this stage.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- While the brownies are cooling, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Once the brownies are completely cool, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
For a healthier twist, consider using whole wheat flour or coconut sugar. You can also substitute the chocolate chips for nuts or dried fruit if you prefer.
